WELCOME TO THE ROYAL BURGH OF CULLEN

DOLPHINS IN THE MORAY FIRTH

The bottlenose dolphin (Thursiops truncatus) is the most familiar of all the cetaceans and is resident all year round in the Moray Firth which is the prime area for observation.  Here the dolphins share the water with the much smaller harbour porpoise which were formerly much more common in the Firth but are now less frequently seen than the dolphins.

Other species seen from time to time include the minke whale, white sided dolphin and even orca!
